Philanthropy
The gentlemen of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Kappa Rho Chapter value philanthropy. The philanthropy events that Sigma Nu hosts and participates in every year develop a stronger brotherhood, memorable collegiate experiences, and a wonderful community.
In the spring, Sigma Nu hosts "Sandblast," a charity volleyball tournament in which the Panhellenic sororities of UCSD participate in. The gentlemen of Sigma Nu coach the sororities in this fun spring day in the sun. Along with the volleyball tournament, a night of Letter writing is held for donations. All of the proceeds earned during this amazing philanthropy are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is one of the world's premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers. The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our Founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. For more information about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, please visit their website at www.stjude.org.
Every fall quarter, Sigma Nu hosts "Trick or Treat for Hunger," a charity canned food drive in which all the proceeds are donated to a local food bank. Sigma Nu accepts donations on the campus of UCSD, as well as Trick or Treating for canned food in the local neighborhoods of La Jolla and San Diego. In 2007, Sigma Nu will be donating all the proceeds from "Trick or Treat for Hunger" to Mama's Kitchen of San Diego. Mama's Kitchen is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization, that prepares and delivers food to men, women and children who are affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses. For more information about Mama's Kitchen, please visit their website at www.mamaskitchen.org.
We are eager to further our image as a fraternity based in philanthropy and service to our great community.
